Heading on a J1 for the summer of 2018? We’ve got the lowdown on JOBS right here! This will be the 3rd year of the new J1 employment regulation; which simply state you MUST have a job fully approved before you’re allowed book your U.S Embassy Interview and travel to the U.S. Sounds scary right? Of course, however SAYIT J1 are here to assist you in any way possible, in securing a job for your J1.
California Dreaming:
Before we discuss all the ways you can secure a job through us for your J1, let’s clear up one thing. There ARE jobs in San Diego and surrounding areas, however they are quite scarce. You’ll need to act quickly if you want to get one through us.
We recommend to consider the East Coast for the working part of your J1, your job and accommodation hunt will be much easier than if you choose California. You can always then make use of our stopover flight system to ensure you get a few weeks travelling up and down the west coast at the end.
There are 3 ways in which you can a job in the USA for the summer.
By choosing this option, you will be invited onto the Sponsor Job Database App when thousands of jobs will be available all over the states. As I previously mentioned, jobs on the west coast are particularly scarce but are available if you’re quick. San Francisco is an exception as there seems to be plenty of jobs there on it.
In order to get onto this app and start applying for the best jobs before anyone else, you’ll need to have completed the following:
You can find your own job whether it be offered through a friend or a family member or if you just found it online yourself. This job, however will not already be vetted like the ones on the Sponsor App.
The vetting process is very straightforward:
There will be 2 types of job fairs throughout your application. The main one being the jobs fair taking place in Dublin in February in the RIU Gresham Hotel. There are numerous employers from all over the USA going to be at this fair. We’d highly recommend you note these dates in your diaries, especially if you’re living outside of Dublin.
The second type of job fairs will be virtual. Between January and April, we will be hosting many online job fairs. This means you will be given the option to book yourself into a time slot for a specific employer that’s available. You will then be required to accept a skype call from the employer at that time. Booking one of these fairs can be done through your J1 lounge login.
That’s it, hope this answers a few questions for any student going on J1 with SAYIT in 2018. We can assure you that provided you’re prepared, organised and open to Plan B J1 destinations, that you will have no problem getting your own job or one through us for next summer.
*EBO Offer is very limited.
