22 January, 2014
Dear J1 student,
Important changes have occurred within the last 6 weeks. On the 12th December an email was sent to advise the new procedure laid down by both the US Embassy and by the J1 Sponsor InterExchange. To this end we have had to amend the J1 procedure beginning the week of the 20th January. This change affects all bookings from the first registration date back in October. For any booking made after the 12th December, the information in relation to these changes were and still are available in www.j1.ie/j1-updates and in viewNews/id/300/ . Unfortunately as these changes occurred outside of our control, you must adhere to the following procedure in regards to your J1:
Book & Confirm Flights
Within 72 hours of booking your visa, you must contact us to book your flights on 021 4279190. You are not required to pay a deposit or pay in full when you book your flights. The final payment date is the 6th of March 2014. You have unlimited date & route changes up until 28th February 2014.
Documentation
You must submit a copy of your valid passport within 5 working days.
You must submit your stamped application form (Page 1) within 5 working days. A letter from the college can replace the stamped page.
You must submit your signed (& signed by a parent if under 21 at time of booking) application form (Page 3) within 5 working days.
Work Permit Processing
Once we have received your deposit of €80 & all your documentation SAYIT will process your application. Your DS-2019 (work permit) will be requested from our US sponsor - InterExchange.
Embassy & Visa Processing
We can only apply for your embassy appointment once you have submitted the following to us:
Your embassy pack will be ready for collection in Cork or dispatched by register post (if outside of Cork) once you have completed the 5 steps.
J1 Lounge and Tracking
The J1 Lounge allows you to track the status of your application every step of the way! The Lounge also contains our employer and accommodation database with leads on hundreds of employers who hire J1 students for the summer season. Log on to your personal J1 tracking account (with your email address and your SAYIT booking reference which is your SID number) to view the status of your J1 Visa
Orientation & Final Balance
Please ensure that you have everything booked and paid in full by the 6th March 2014 - programme fee, flights, SEVIS and insurance. You can choose to pay in installments, both on and offline, if you wish.
You will be required to attend an orientation in March or April where we will cover important topics such as jobs, accommodation, insurance, US State Dept. requirements etc.
As soon as your J1 visa has been issued and you have paid in full we will post your final pack. The pack contains your flight e-ticket, insurance documentation, J1 visa, and information booklets relevant to your time in the USA
Any deviation to the above procedure will exclude you from the J1 application process and we will not be able to proceed with your booking.
Due to changes made outside of our control, I have attached the new terms & conditions that are applicable to every student. Please pay special attention to the changes in the cancellation rules.
As always please feel free to contact us in Cork or drop into the office if you have any queries or questions or need help with any part of the new procedure.
Our office details remain the same:
