Colorado

Read SAYIT's advice on and contact information for accommodation and J1 summer job hunting in Colorado, USA.

Colorado is located in the west of the US, and encompasses much of the Rocky Mountains. With a population of more than 5 million, it is noted for its vivid landscape of mountains, plains, mesas, and canyons. Denver is the capital and the most populous city of Colorado. In the western part of Colorado there are 4 national parks: Rocky Mountains, Mesa Verde, Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Great Sand Dunes where there is a kaleidoscope of summer wildflowers.

Colorado is extremely cold in the winter, so when the heat comes during the summer, all of the festivals happen and the locals come out to play! This makes it a fantastic location to spend your J1 summer.

Accommodation

A good option in Colorado is the university town of Boulder. This is the perfect J1 destination for you if you love outdoor adventure. Whether its white-water rafting, hiking, rock-climbing or mountain biking, Boulder, CO is tough to beat. Accommodation can be found near the university. For information and help, please take a look at: http://ocss.colorado.edu/

Accommodation is readily available in Summit Count where students can rent lodges conveniently located no more than 20 min from Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, Copper and Breckenridge ski resorts. These resorts offer plenty of employment opportunities and love to hire J1 students.

The cost is usually $550 per person for an entire month's stay. However, depending on how many students are traveling, you may be able to negotiate.

Most of the resorts will offer accommodation to students who they are employing for the summer months, so your rent can then be automatically deducted from your salary. Some resorts which may be able to offer you accommodation in addition to employment are Keystone Resort and Copper Mountain.
